NJROTC Survival Guide

WELCOME!!!!

Welcome to Miami Beach Sr. High School NJROTC. The purpose of this guide is to help you answer the many questions you may have about NJROTC, and help you survive your first year of NJROTC. As a new Cadet there are many different opportunities offered through NJROTC; but you need to be informed in order to benefit.

Naval Science Instructors

First things first, meet your naval science instructors: Chief R. Fisher, and HM1 R. Hunter. It is important that you get to know your instructors; they offer mounds of knowledge about the program and will help with just about anything. These instructors will guide you throughout your NS1 year and teach you all you need to know about NJROTC.

Company Officers

The Company Officers are students in the NJROTC program that are in charge of running the unit. The Company officers have a great deal of knowledge and are willing to help you get the answers you need. The following is a list of officers and the jobs they maintain:

The Company Commander and in charge of the unit. If you have any questions regarding the unit

The Executive Officer and in charge of Staff Officers and Drill Teams. The XO knows the details of all the unit events and can help with any unit problems.

The Battalion Supply Officer is in charge of the issuing of uniforms. If you need help with you uniform contact your Platoon Commader.

NOTE: We will be selecting other Assistant Staff Officers at the beginning of the school year. You need to meet all the Staff Officers, and understand what their job are. Remember- their first priority is to help YOU, and make this a better NJROTC unit.

F.A.Q

This section is here to answer some of the many questions new cadets may have.

What is NJROTC?

The first NJROTC program or Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps began in 1966. Today there are more then 425 programs through out the United States, District of Columbia, Guam, Japan and Italy. NJROTC is a programmed directed to teach high school students, self-discipline and confidence in themselves. NJROTC helps students realize their full potential by pushing them to do what they thought was impossible. This is why NJROTC is such an important program for developing young mind.

What does my Unit do?

In the Miami Beach Sr. High NJROTC unit there are many events that take place throughout the year. These events include community service projects, field meet competitions, formal ceremonies, and much more. These events teach students different aspects of Naval life and are always enjoyable.

How do I get involved?

Getting involved in this unit is easy; all it takes is little of your time. If you’re willing to put in the work, a great way to get involved is to join one of our competition teams. At MBSH we have many teams that include Academic, Physical Fitness, Color Guard, unarmed Drill, Armed Drill and exhibition. These teams are always looking for new members and are more then willing to teach eager new cadets.

What is expected of me?

As a new cadet you are expected to learn about our unit and get involved. It is important that new cadets don’t look at NJROTC as just a class but as a program that goes way beyond any classroom. In NJROTC you are expected to follow the rules and maintain self-discipline at all times. NJROTC is one that can be enjoyed by all but only if everyone gets involved and acts as a team.
